From the very first email I received from Rachel at Hands Free Mama, I knew I wanted to work with her. She was very clear with the direction she wanted her new blog design to go in, and she exuded friendliness and politeness in her email. I couldn’t help but feel the enthusiasm she had for life and didn’t even hesitate to accept her project. She has a book coming out in January 2014, and I know I’ll be reading it!
The book cover design was the inspiration for the blog redesign. She wanted a shabby-chic vintage look with hand-lettered text, and that is exactly what she got!
We incorporated the adorable scroll design behind her email subscription widget. We added the flourishes around her vintage logo, and added some fun and flare to her menu options. The site is mobile responsive, and includes some custom coding to make the site unique to Rachel.
I used a new plugin- Uber Grid– for this site, and the result is stunning! Just take a look at her Press page. I set up a grid to feature all of the locations she has been published (and she can add future items to the grid), and when you hover over an image, a description pops up, and with a click it opens a new tab directly to that press page. I love how the grid is responsive, too! I have lots of ideas of how to use this plugin on other sites, too! The possibilities are endless!
I just love the way it turned out, and thankfully she is thrilled, too. Here is the testimonial she submitted upon completion of the project:
Julie did an amazing job with my website re-design! I had a vision in my head for my site and Julie managed to make it come to life! It is absolutely perfect. Julie was a joy to work with. She is organized, thorough, and prompt. I loved using Basecamp to communicate with her. Julie kept her word on getting my site launched when she said she would. Julie is a true professional in every sense of the word. She is amazingly talented, and I would highly recommend her to anyone needing a site re-design.
Here is a screenshot of her design before she contacted me:
And here is the design I was able to create for her:
It was such a thrill to work with Rachel. She has taught me a lot in just the short month that we worked together, and I am inspired by the way she writes and connects with her readers. I will be a long-time reader of this darling client of mine. So thankful for amazing people like her in this world!
