Have you ever asked yourself how much a blog design should cost? When searching around for a blog designer, do you find yourself wondering why prices vary so greatly? How can ‘X’ designer charge hundreds of dollars for a custom design, when ‘Y’ designer only charges $45?
Many factors play into the price of a blog design, because different designers offer different services. One thing you may not have considered, is that when you hire a blog designer, you are not only paying for their time, but you are also paying for their knowledge. This is knowledge and expertise that is acquired with time, and with each project completed.
With a custom design, there is a lot of work that goes on ‘behind the scenes’. A lot of labor goes into formulating the right code and making sure it works. A good designer thinks about good design, as well as the Information Architecture (how the site is intended to function) of each site. It is not just about making pretty designs. That is only a fraction of the process.
It might sound like a good idea to let your cousin help you with your blog because they took an HTML class in college years ago, but do they know how to secure your database, restore your site from the ‘white screen of death’, backup your posts and stylesheets? Do they know proper design rules that should be followed for good design?
I think it is easy to get ‘caught up in the numbers’. It is natural to seek a better deal. However, when searching for a blog designer, consider the fact that you will get what you pay for, and that cheaper is not always better.
